Nathalie ten Cate, autodidact.
Being born in Amsterdam, grewing up in the beautiful Gooi, in a lovely village called Blaricum, at the age of 16 went to the art academy in Laren, North of Holland, to make that same sculpture my mother made amongst other sculptures. This was actually the start of my creative process. Although as a child already carrying that animal heart, the love and fascination for Wildlife, i at first made other art works.
At a certain moment later in life i came aware that almost automatically my focus layd with creating wild animals.
The materials i work with when sculpting is mainly clay, wax and gypsum, finally to turn into bronze. Besides sculpting i started painting Wildlife big on canvas and sketch paper, i love using prominent eye catching colours combined with its natural colours, to make them come alife. My mission is to pass on the majestic, powerful, vulnerable, pure beauty of the wild encounter to the public.
Recently i started with limited edition prints of my originals of high quality, which is a blast to do.
Further on up my arty road i carefully like to change my style a little into more streetarty, sketchy style with that funky touch, and most important of all to hope to create awareness through my art. The sleepless nights i have of the great concern about our precious Wildlife & nature, the destruction of it, the great threat of rapid extinction of almost all our Wildlife…it soothens and calms my heart a great deal when making them.
